Job Search Confidence - Hire Imaging
Job Search Confidence - Hire Imaging Job Search Confidence My client, Cheryl lost her job as a Project Manager after 18 years with the same company. Her employer shifted its operations to another state. She took a month-long hiatus, and then started her job search, with her confidence at an all-time low. The true âah-hahâ moment came a few weeks later when Cheryl was interviewing for another project management position. She was, trying to pitch herself. She later told me that while she was saying to that interviewer, âI managed key initiatives impacting IT integration for several offices,â her inner voice was saying, âYes, and if youâd been any good at it, you would not be in this interview.â Job Search Confidence: Shaken Cheryl realized her bruised self-esteem was something she needed to push through. Lack of self-confidence would not serve her well if she were to market herself to employers in a tough job market. Cheryl and I discussed how so much of the job search is a relational process. We talked about how grieving the loss of a job is one thing; playing the self-blame game is another. I asked Cheryl several questions around this past position: How would things be different if youâd never had that job with ABC Company? What would you do differently? What did you like best about what you did? What did you like least? What skills are transferable to finding something else aligned with what you liked? Job Search Confidence: Strengthened Cheryl gradually recognized that she was a unique human being. Yes, it was a competitive market. But she had both hard and soft skills to offer new employers with new opportunities. She also began to interact more with a strong network she had built over the yearsâ"face-to-face and online. Some of her biggest boosts to her self-confidence came from her giving back in these networking situations. Not only did she feel good about it; she received thanks, compliments and returned favorsâ"resources, leads and new contacts. She updated her resume, cover letters, elevator speeches and LinkedIn profile. Focusing on marketing helped her stay tuned in to her value. She practiced interviewing with a video camera. She developed a job-search strategy and action plan, which helped her stay focusedâ"baby stepsâ"to avoid feeling overwhelmed or backpedaled into self-defeating thoughts. She took steps to earn her Project Management Professional certification, which kept her feeling cutting edge. Cheryl made a list of reminders right on her iPhone, so she could look at them frequently: Accept who I am. Iâll make mistakes and things just happen sometimes. Move on. Focus on my strengths, accomplishments and value. My short-term goals are ______; my long-term goals are _____. I will review these daily. I will show my progress and everything I achieve each day. If I need to adjust my goals, I will. Thatâs okay. I will surround myself with positive people and situations that lift my spirits. I will never compare myself to others. I am unique. I am confident. Cheryl is still in her job search. Whatâs changed is that she is focused on moving forward. She is not stuck in the non-productive emotions of low confidence and self-esteem. Sheâs moving forward to a bright future! Too many people overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are.â ~Malcolm S. Forbes Photo: SweetOnVeg

5 tips to achieve work-life balance -
5 tips to achieve work-life balance - Work-life balance is a topic on the minds of many professionals and job seekers. WorkplaceTrends.com, a research and advisory membership service for forward-thinking human resources professionals, and CareerArc, a global recruitment and outplacement firm, recently announced the results of the 2015 Workplace Flexibility Study. They surveyed 1,087 professionals nationally, both employed and unemployed, and 116 HR professionals. Interestingly, 67 percent of human resources professionals think their employees have a balanced work life, yet 45 percent of employees believe they dont have enough time each week to handle their personal business. Plus, 20 percent of employees surveyed spend more than 20 hours per week working during their own time. Yair Riemer, chief marketing officer of CareerArc, suggests the following tips to help employees achieve work-life balance while reducing stress and increasing productivity. 1. Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize. Prioritization is the key to success and is a lesson that can be applied across a wide variety of industries â" not just startups where product and engineering teams often prioritize tasks weekly,â Riemer says. When you identify the most important items on your to-do list, itâs easier to know where to start and when you can finish for the day or week. Prioritization helps you focus on what is really important and decreases unnecessary stress that comes with an urgent focus on less timely or unimportant tasks. Itâs a good idea to touch base with your supervisor if you have multiple projects and need help deciding which one is most important. 2. Be proactive â" not reactive. âWhen youâre reactive, you lose touch with whatâs really important, Riemer says. And thus, you fail to operate at peak capacity, causing stress.â When you take the time and effort to plan ahead and anticipate what your colleagues or managers may request, youâll be better prepared to juggle multiple tasks and schedule your time. âWith your schedule planned, you can attack those tasks proactively, rather than waiting for external inputs to land on your desk, increasing your stress levels and leaving you overwhelmed,â he says. Hopefully, this will prevent you from bringing a lot of work home on a regular basis. 3. Use your vacation. The average American takes only about half their paid time off per year. âThatâs not enough time to recharge,â Riemer says. Plus, studies show that many workers donât disconnect from work, even when theyre on vacation. They are still glued to their devices and screens to check work email and keep up with colleagues. Riemer believes taking a vacation and truly disconnecting is key to recharging and getting re-energized once back at the office. 4. Trust in your peers. âThe best managers trust their employees, and the best employees have trust in their companyâs leadership,â Riemer says. âIf you believe in your colleagues â" in their intellect, in their work ethic, in their skill set â" then share the load.â Even if you believe you have to do everything yourself, itâs unlikely youâre expected to carry the entire burden at the expense of all of your personal time. If you work with a team, be sure to collaborate on projects, and donât own tasks for the sake of ownership. âYou may be a Type A perfectionist or love control, but winning organizations are made up of teammates, not individuals, he says. Your work-life balance will improve significantly with a little bit of help from your friends.â Get my free white paper: 5 Mistakes Preventing You From Landing a Job This Week 5. Exercise. Donât put off taking care of yourself. You donât need a gym membership or fancy equipment to exercise. Even a brisk walk in the morning or at lunchtime can be invigorating and help clear your mind. Research shows regular exercise helps keep you clear-headed, which improves control of work-life balance, reduces stress and increases self-efficacy, Riemer says. The 2015 Workplace Flexibility Study found that 75 percent of employees ranked workplace flexibility as their top desired benefit. Whether or not your employer is actively seeking ways to enhance your flexibility, use these steps to protect your personal time and to make an effort to tip the balance in your work-life hours. Resume Writing-Career Focus
Resume Writing-Career FocusWhen applying for a job, one of the more important steps you can take is to ensure that your resume is designed for career focus. In order to make sure that you are doing this correctly, there are several components that you should incorporate in your resume. One of the easiest ways to create a resume that is career focused is to make sure that it addresses the career objective of the job. While you may think that you have to highlight the actual skills and experience you possess, the truth is that your resume should concentrate on what you are qualified to do for the company or position you are applying for.It is very important to ensure that your career objective is well-defined and represented in your resume. It should also be placed at the top of the resume. If you place it there, then the rest of the contents are secondary to it.You need to use your focus keyword in all of your bullet points. Using focus keywords is one of the best ways to keep your res ume focused and professional. Focus keywords will make it easy for your readers to find what they are looking for, which in turn will help them determine whether or not you have the necessary qualifications for the job.Your resume should not look cluttered or too formal. Your resume must not resemble any other resume. This includes a heavy amount of tables and charts, bolding, and not many sentences. The bottom line when it comes to writing career focus resumes is that you need to focus on the job or company that you are applying for. This can be done easily by only including a few parts of information, such as the job title, date of employment, your work history, and any training or certifications you have received.Once you have figured out exactly what you want to include in your resume, you must create a template that you can use for reference. This will allow you to reuse the same resume when you are doing your other writing for a job search. Your focus resume should be used as a guideline to help you see how to create the perfect resume for your needs.

7 Signs Your Relationship Is Stealing Too Much of Your Energy
7 Signs Your Relationship Is Stealing Too Much of Your Energy Not all relationships are healthy relationships, even if you truly love or care deeply about your partner. The fact of the matter is that relationships, especially romantic ones, consume a lot of time and energy. Of course, its natural that you spend a good chunk of your day thinking about and concerning yourself with your partner, including their needs and their feelings. (If you didnt, thatd be concerning in and of itself). But you also need to spend time on you, your needs and your feelings, too.And the second that you stop thinking about you, youve got a toxic situation on your hands. Here are seven signs that youre letting yourself go because your relationship is claiming too much of your mental and emotional bandwidth.1. Youre feeling overwhelmed in your partners presence. If you find yourself feeling mora overwhelmed than at ease in your partners presence, thats a major red flag. Your relationship should add value to your life, notlage stress.2. Youre experiencing mental and physical symptoms of stress.Major side effects of stress include weight gain or weight loss, hair loss, breakouts, insomnia or narcolepsy, mood swings, etc. If you start experiencing these symptoms due to the stress of your relationship, its a clear indicator that your relationship is taking a toll on your mental and physical health. You might even have outside sources of stress, but even this might suggest that youre not in a position to be in a relationship right now.3. You dont want to hear your partners opinions or thoughts. You may want to consider whetzu sich your relationship is taking up too much of your mental and emotional bandwidth if you find yourself neglecting your partners opinions and thoughts... simply because you dont have the capacity to listen or care anymore. This may be because theyve hurt you, or it may just be because youre spreading yourself too thin between your relationship and the other obligations in your life. Whatever the case, this is not a good sign.4. Your sex life has become sub-par at best.A gamut of research suggests that relationship stress, and stress in general, can take a serious toll on your sex life. If you find that you and your partner are having less frequent sexual encounters or youre enjoying your sex life a lot less, this might be a sign that youve got too much on your plate and, as such, youre not mentally or emotionally present or even interested.5. Youre so exhausted, youd rather spend more time asleep than you would with your partner.Of course, being overwhelmed can lead to utter exhaustion. And, sure, sometimes, youre just tired and you need sleep. But if you find yourself regularly preferring to sleep than spend quality time with your partner, this could be a red flag. You might not have any energy left to share with another person or, perhaps, your partner in particular.6. You find yourself ignoring or avoiding your partner. If youre so busy or ment ally and emotionally drained that youre constantly ignoring your partners calls or scheduling your day to avoid crossing paths with them at home, it may be a major sign that you dont have the mental capacity to deal with them anymore (or you just dont want to).7. You catch yourself complaining about your partner more often than usual. Its natural that, when youre in over your head, you chew a friends ear off about all the things stressing you out. If you constantly catch yourself complaining about your relationship or partner, it may be because that relationship or partner is making you unhappy more than it is bringing joy and ease to your life.--AnnaMarie Houlis is a feminist, a freelance journalist and an adventure aficionado with an affinity for impulsive solo travel.
